Purpose Of The Job

Under the supervision of the Administrative Associate, incumbent of the post will be overall responsible for the driving and maintenance of the UNICEF car. H/She will also support on protocol related to staff travel, work permits, visas and staff privileges. H/She demonstrates a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Main Tasks/responsibilities

Driver will be responsible for the following main tasks:
  • Drive office vehicles for the transport of UNICEF staff, officials and visitors and delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items, and meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport and may include assisting with basic visa, immigration and customs formalities when required.
  • Ensures vehicle is kept in good running condition at all times by carrying out minor repairs, making arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, water levels and car washing.
  • Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle registration, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle.
  • Liaise with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and/or Protocol unit for troubleshooting of any protocol related matters.
  • Assist staff members and their recognized dependents in processing and following up their requests for visas, resident permits and diplomatic identification as well as other necessary related documents in accordance with the requirement of the United Nations and the Host Country. Also assist in customs clearances/exemptions, and other related services.
  • Facilitate airport lounge bookings including meeting and greeting airports in support of departure and arrival of senior staff.
  • Arrange airport transfers of high-level officials and UNICEF visitors such as donors and support to expedite customs and immigration procedures as necessary.
  • Any other office tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications And Experience Required
Minimum Secondary Education Certificate with a valid driver’s license and knowledge of local driving rules and regulations.
Minimum two years of work experience in driving office vehicles in an international organization, embassy or UN system with a safe driving record. Prior experience of handling protocol related tasks is desirable.
Language Requirements
Fluency in English and the local language (Arabic/French) required.
