The key purpose of this role is support R&D lead team providing professional services, researching, exploring and developing new ideas, concepts, technologies, systems, process, solutions and projects, in close collaboration with, Engineering, Operation & HSE teams.
This role is also supporting the “Execution of Proof-of-Concepts” and select the best solutions for DP World, including in our “Automation Catalogue” as our guidance, qualifying all solutions in a coordinated and global perspective.
Assess and benchmark internal (DPWorld optimizations programs or company’s) and vendor operational solutions/concepts.
Engaging and liaising suppliers, defining DPW requirements to build products and solutions.
Development of the technical specifications of selected projects in order to facilitate the global roll out.
Specific attention goes to initiatives within the Group around Decarbonization and Safety
Further, part of this role is to co-consolidate, coordinate and improve knowledge we have in the automation field. Automation implementation increases fast in our container terminals - from small “Automated features” till “Fully Automated Terminals”. R&D contributes significantly in this field.
Key Accountabilities
Assist / guides in process modelling of all terminal equipment by looking into the dedicated system.
Facilitate product development (internal and external) and promote PoC results knowledge transfer.
Manage Proof of Concepts and assist and support roll-outs System integration
Well versed with Industrial automation including, PLC/HMI, Drives and control systems such as SCADA and or DCS’s
Assist in developing, writing, and maintaining a variety of reports, documents, correspondence, and records related to DP World decarbonization, automation and R&D initiatives.
Keep Automation catalogue up to date.
Analyse data from the database of equipment’s.
Work closely with other stakeholders (Automation, IT, Energy, Technology, Operation etc..) to, analyse data, and provide solution recommendation.
Propose additional modifications in the safety & other parameters of automated equipment.
Advise on necessary process improvement system available and OEM etc.
Maintain library of back up records.
Work on the development, implementation, and monitoring of assigned R&D relevant projects such as terminal assets to get quantum benefits in relation to improving the productivity, reliability and saving energy but not limited to.
Assist on short term and long-term sustainable goals to achieve with quantified and qualitive benefits.
Assist on products and platform services get built based on defined specifications, terminal operations requirements, and automation industry best practices.
Assist on engagement to collect input from external stakeholders such as suppliers, consultants, and terminals which needed to develop new service areas in close collaboration with other stakeholders Automation, Energy management, Operation and engineering teams
Drives engagement and performance within multiple projects.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in electrical, electronics, robotics, automation or mechatronics engineering or similar field.
Proficiency in maintaining automation equipment.
Experience with robotics, AI and machine learning.
Experience with project management
Experience systems commissioning and integration.
Solid understanding of computer programming and software development
Ability to troubleshoot equipment and perform complex system tests.
Strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Creative thinking skills.
Strong analytical skills.
Ability to communicate well with other members of the development team.
Ability to keep up with the latest technologies.
A desire to continually upgrade technical knowledge.
>5 years of terminal automation industry experience mainly with 5+ years of experience in PLC programming and/or developing and delivering end to end system/products modifications, efficiency reports for ports and container terminals.
Specific and practical experience in selecting, proofing, developing technical operational concepts
Expertise in modern automation technology instrumentation and controls; operation data acquisition and safety systems; automation integration and automation control/execution systems.
Knowhow in providing operationally critical technology services on the industrial automation solution side.
Understanding automation industry trends and relevant innovations in solution delivery methods
Good communication and cross-functional cooperation capabilities – a team player with positive Can-Do, result-oriented attitude.
Knowhow with Information Security management - Maintain the data confidentiality & integrity and relevant compliance of information systems.
Understand product lifecycle implementation of Automation architecture solutions and associated industry (IT/OT) industrial automation standards.
