The Academic Advising Unit of the Student Central Services Department at UDST is seeking applications for the position of Academic Advising Specialist.


Your Commitment


Reporting to the Head of Academic Advising, you will provide academic advising services based on a developmental advising model. Your role will involve building dynamic relationships with students to help them navigate the University, optimize their success, and dedicate more time to learning and engaging in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. You will work towards assisting students in achieving their academic, personal, and career goals.


Duties & Responsibilities


Operational


  • Support student success through a tiered-support developmental-advising model
  • Stay informed on UDST policies, procedures, workflows, program, and plan information, using that information to assist/guide advisees in navigating policies and procedures effectively
  • Assist advisees with course registration, program transfer, troubleshooting academic concerns, liaising with and connecting students with campus resources, facilitating course exemptions, assisting students in finding answers to situations affecting their academic performance, addressing student concerns, etc. (always tying in the stakeholders and decision-makers, when appropriate)
  • Help students to understand academic standing and GPA calculations
  • Develop student success plans with interested advisees to help them maximize their potential
  • Create academic recovery plans with at-risk and early alert students, conducting regular check-ins and revisions as needed
  • Conduct active outreach and provide support to advisees, with additional outreach to early-alert or at-risk advisees
  • Connect advisees with campus resources for academic, personal, or social support
  • Share opportunities for extra-curricular, co-curricular, and academic enrichment activities
  • Discuss concerns about program or plan choice, academic progress, and study habits
  • Provide guidance on attendance, academic standing, deadlines, and qualification completion
  • Ensure appropriate access to information and involve the relevant stakeholders in discussions
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of services, outreach, and discussions
  • Perform other job-related miscellaneous duties as assigned

Education and Certifications:


Bachelor’s degree in relevant field is required


Master’s degree and/or professional certification is preferred


Experience:


Minimum 5 years of relevant experience is required, preferably in the higher education sector


Language:


Fluency in written and spoken English language is required


Fluency in written and spoken Arabic language is preferred


Other Required Skills


Attention to Detail, Reliability and Dependability, Relationship Building, Teamwork and Collaborative Working, Service Excellence with Technical Competencies in Student Success, Student Life Cycle, Service Design and Implementation and Process Design and Efficiency are required.


  • Collaborative and collegial spirit and a demonstrated ability to establish rapport with learners, colleagues, sponsor-employers, and members of the community.
  • Experience in leadership and innovation in technology-based projects.
