Position Highlights:


Position Title: Disease Investigator (Nevada DHHS)


Location: Remote


Position End Date: 7/31/2024


Salary: $57,000 plus benefits


Overview:


The CDC Foundation is seeking a Disease Investigator who will coordinate with Epidemiologists who are investigating outbreaks and disease occurrence in congregate settings. The Disease Investigator will enter case data into a statewide database and assure accuracy of all entered data.


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree with major course work in public health, epidemiology or related field or comparable experience in epidemiology, surveillance, and public health
  • Knowledge of public health practices, communicable diseases, disease control, and epidemiologic methods
  • Knowledge of medical and health care terminology related to health programs and facilities
  • Ability to manage, compile, analyze, and present data
  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing with diverse audiences
  • Ability to work with a variety of computer software packages
  • An understanding of patient confidentiality, including the ability to conduct interviews without violating confidentiality (e.g., to those who might overhear their conversations)
  • Excellent and sensitive interpersonal, cultural sensitivity, and interviewing skills such that they can build and maintain trust with interviewees; ability to maintain confidentiality; judgement as to when to refer cases to other resources if needed


Responsibilities:


Interviewing & Data Collection:


  • Contacts healthcare facilities to collect data on patient symptoms, exposures, and persons with whom they have been in contact with while infectious
  • Communicates with health care providers and community partners in a professional manner, assuring them of the confidentiality of the information collected and explaining how the information will be utilized
  • Collects and records information into statewide database and assures accuracy of data


Health Education:


  • Provides healthcare facilities with approved information about state isolation and screening procedures.,
  • Alerts Epidemiologists if the case is associated with a congregate or other high risk setting that requires additional public health investigation or intervention


Data Entry & Maintenance:


  • Utilizes established database(s) to identify newly diagnosed patients
  • Inputs data collected (i.e., symptoms, contacts, etc.) into database and assures database is kept up to date
  • Reviews medical records (including face sheets, history and physical, consults, progress notes, laboratory results, transfer and discharge summaries) to update database
  • Provides data from Case Investigation efforts to Epidemiologists and/or Health Educators, as necessary
  • Performs functions of position independently and within established procedures and guidelines. Seeks supervisory guidance for non-routine or complex matters

This role is involved in a dynamic public health program. As such, roles and responsibilities are subject to change as situations evolve. Roles and responsibilities listed above may be expanded upon or updated to match priorities and needs, once written approval is received by both the CDC Foundation and Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, in order to best support the State of Nevada in their public health programming.


This position is 100% telecommute. CDC Foundation retains the right to make adjustments to this as required.
