Your day to day

What do we want you to do?

We’re looking for someone with tenacity, a positive attitude, boundless energy, and some Hotel Indigo® swagger. Success in this role requires a strong track record in HR and strong internal stakeholder and owner management. We are looking for someone who is open to providing brand-specific services and who can influence the execution of the company's overall business agenda.

We want you to be a warm-hearted, approachable, inspirational, and a forward-thinking person who will be respected by your peers. You should have a deep understanding of Oman's labour practices and laws, as well as the ability to effectively deal with employees from diverse cultures to build a harmonious team. Experience in building Human resource policies and processes are important in this challenging location so that we can deliver a true Indigo experience to our guests and team alike.

Your day to day

Job Summary – (Role Summary)
  • Manage Human Resources programs such as recruiting/employment, orientation, on-boarding processes, compensation, benefits, worker’s compensation, employee relations, employee recognition programs and training for hotel employees. Ensure policy compliance, support the Company’s initiatives, and promote a positive employee culture. Plus, maintain and encourage confidentiality in all HR-related matters.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities – (Key Activities Of The Role)
  • Manage Human Resource Department, ensuring compliance with all Corporate, area and hotel policies and procedures, including current local and government regulations pertaining to employment practices whilst enforcing the IHG HR framework.
  • Ensures clear lines of communication exist to disseminate information involving employer - employee relations, employee activities and hotel policies and programmes.
  • Prepare and submit reports for management’s use in accordance with Corporate and government requirements, such as turnover reports, personnel inventories, absenteeism reports, health and safety, accident reports etc.
  • Welcomes and conducts new team member orientation and smooth on-boarding, ensuring a good start for all our team members.
  • Maintains effective communications at all levels of management and staff.
  • Assists in maintaining and creating a positive atmosphere within the hotel that allows for open two-way communication to ensure morale and productivity are maintained at the highest possible levels to drive our colleague heartbeat program.
  • Develop and implement recruiting and screening practises and procedures to attract qualified candidates for position vacancies.
  • Monitors the administration of the Performance Appraisal Programme and acts in an advisory capacity to hotel department heads on the process.
  • Regularly analyses hotel manpower requirements and recommends selection and development activities to meet those requirements.
  • Counsels hotel personnel as needed in areas such as career planning, training and development, employeepersonal relations and legal issues related to personnel
  • Ensures applicable laws, regulations, IHG policies and procedures are followed in relation to Grievance and Disciplinary procedures. Consults with department heads on appropriate actions and recommends to management final action to be taken.
  • Implements and monitors an effective employee relations and welfare programme in the hotel and accommodation and

Guest Experience
  • Develop creative ways to inspire and motivate team members to provide guests with a unique experience encompassing the surrounding neighbourhood.
  • Take time to meet and interact with hotel guests. Listen carefully to feedback, build relationships, and analyse how team members could improve guest satisfaction.
  • Work with department managers to create an environment of continuous improvement so that we are constantly evolving, challenging ourselves and driving the guest experience.

Responsible Business
  • Develop awareness and reputation of the hotel and the brand in the local community and promote team member involvement in local community.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant employment laws, policies and procedures.
  • Conduct annual HR compliance/standards self-audit.
  • Document, research and investigate all workplace issues to discover facts, identify potential risks to the hotel or company, and facilitate resolution through your employee relations programmes. Escalate serious issues.
  • Collect and maintain data from exit interviews, turnover statistics, absenteeism reports to identify trends, training needs, and supervisory issues.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Understand and strictly adhere to the Rules & Regulations established in the IHG Colleagues’ Code of Conduct and the Hotel’s policy on Fire, Hygiene, Health, and Safety.
  • Promote efficiency, confidence, courtesy, and an extremely high standard of social skills.
  • Generally promote and ensure good inter-departmental relations.
  • Display a pleasant manner and positive attitude at all times and promote a good company image to guests and colleagues.
  • Demonstrate pride in the workplace and personal appearance at all times when representing the hotel thus identifying a high level of commitment.

What We Need From You
  • Bachelor’s degree / equivalent plus 4 years of related experience in Human Resources or in a Hospitality related field.
  • Higher Managerial experience is also preferred within a hotel or establishment of similar size and complexity.
  • 2 years related experience in Human Resources, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Some college courses in Human Resources, Employment Law or related field preferred.
  • Must be an Omani National and speak fluent English
