Minimum qualifications:
As a Government Affairs and Public Policy Manager you'll help shape Google's policy efforts in Qatar, with a secondary focus on Kuwait and Egypt, related to regulatory topics (e.g., intermediary liability, copyright, privacy, security) and public affairs projects (e.g., digital skills for entrepreneurs, digital responsibility courses in schools, etc.). You will coordinate with the global Government Affairs and Public Policy team, the business and product organizations, and key cross-functional partners to execute our policy strategy, and lead outreach to key stakeholders. You'll develop, organize, manage, and communicate critical plans, initiatives, and strategy, while tracking various regulatory proposals and analyzing their potential impact on Google’s business.
Google takes its responsibilities seriously, including engaging with government and other stakeholders on important public policy challenges. The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team leads the company’s engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, listen carefully to others’ views and opinions, and distill and share the company’s perspective on those issues with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass many areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.
Responsibilities
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience working with the technology industry, in a policy role, or in government.
- Experience working within the MENA region.
- Ability to communicate in English fluently.
- Experience working with or in government, NGOs, regulatory agencies, or corporate public policy teams.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams, variety of stakeholders across multiple countries, and executing strategies to deliver solutions.
- Experience analyzing, studying, providing insights, or advocating for digital-related policies, both at national and MENA levels.
- Ability to identify/gather insights and communicate complex technology policy issues.
- Ability to illustrate topics including intermediary liability, data privacy and governance, AI, digital/audiovisual content, or digital market competition and regulation, with knowledge of Internet technologies and the policy environments that surround them.
- Ability to communicate in Arabic fluently.
